Chief Awolowo Said When He Gets To Heaven, He Should Report Us To Azikiwe, Balewa, And Bello –Dalung

 

Former Minister of Youth and Sport Development Solomon Dalung has stated that Nigeria has disappointed its founding fathers 65 years after independence. He referenced Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s tribute night where it was suggested that when Awolowo gets to heaven, he should report Nigerians to founding fathers like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, and Ahmadu Bello.

 

Speaking on TrustTV News, Dalung explained that while Nigeria has made some modest progress in 65 years, these achievements are inconsiderable when compared with the huge potentials of the country. He stated that 65 years ago, young people were sitting at the table of governance, setting agendas for national development through national development plans, with progressive advancement in education, health, rural transformation, and viable regional economies.

Solomon Dalung said: “If we reflect on our journey as a nation from 1960 till date and review governance, of course we’ve made some modest progress but these progress are inconsiderable with the huge potentials of our country, our prospects and how we have been able to cope up with other nations whom we got independence with at the same time. 65 years ago there were young people sitting at the table of governance, setting an agenda and a tune for national development. There were the national development plans which were pursued. There were progressive advancement in terms of education, health, rural transformation. Chief Obafemi Awolowo said at the tribute night of late that please when he gets to heaven, he should report us to Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello and inform them that we have disappointed them because we are worse off where they left us.”
