Trey Songz appears in court after allegedly punching nightclub staff in New York

American R&B singer Trey Songz appeared in a Manhattan criminal court on Sunday following accusations that he assaulted a nightclub employee in New York City. According to prosecutors, the incident happened around 4 a.m. on December 4 at Dramma Night Club in Times Square. Court documents say the singer became needlessly irate after a staff member informed him the club was closing. He is accused of punching the employee in the face, leaving the victim with swelling and significant pain. The 41-year-old singer, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, has been charged with assault in connection with the incident, Daily Mail reported. He was also hit with a separate second-degree criminal mischief charge linked to another incident earlier the same day at a Manhattan restaurant, Mira. Prosecutors allege that property worth about $1,500 was damaged, including DJ equipment, sofas, and hookahs. Reacting to the charges, Trey Songzs lawyer said the singer is cooperating fully and is confident the facts will speak for themselves. The lawyer also claimed that on a separate night, Trey was confronted by individuals who instigated a situation, forcing his security team to step in. The latest case adds to a list of past legal troubles involving the singer. In 2021, he was arrested after an altercation with police at an NFL game in Kansas City, where he was charged with resisting arrest, trespassing, and assaulting an officer. He has also had previous arrests related to resisting arrest and property damage. Earlier this year, Trey Songz settled a long-running civil lawsuit that accused him of sexual assault at a Miami nightclub. The case was resolved privately before trial, with no admission of wrongdoing.
