
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a Nigerian woman for causing harm to her nine-year-old daughter at Duase, near Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region, Ghana.. Beauty Alakwe, 34, was sentenced on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 by the Circuit Court at Tafo in Kumasi, to 15 months in prison with hard labour and fined 6,000 Ghanaian cedis. She failed to pay the fine and has been remanded to Central Prisons, Kumasi, to serve her sentence. The case arose on 22 November when a local resident, with assistance from the areas Assembly Member, reported the assault. Investigations were carried out by the Kenyasi District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) under the Tafo-Pankrono Division. The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare, Mamponteng, to coordinate with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the welfare and reunification of the victim and her nine-year-old brother with their family in Nigeria. The Ashanti Regional Police Command praised the public for their cooperation in the investigation and reiterated its stance against mob justice, emphasizing its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons.
