Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has warned that internal groups within the party are introducing what he described as aggression and rambunctiousness, which could destabilise the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. His comments come amid growing pressure from supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Partys 2023 presidential flagbearer, who are demanding that he be handed the ADCs presidential ticket for 2027. Allies of Obi, including Pat Utomi and activist Aisha Yesufu, have publicly insisted that Obi must contest the presidency and not accept a vice-presidential slot. In a post on his X page titled My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Another Wike Scenario, Momodu cautioned the party against allowing any individual or bloc to hijack or destabilise the coalition. He recalled that the ADC was adopted by opposition figures as a voluntary platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, stressing that no one was coerced into joining. I was present when some members of Nigerias opposition political parties gathered in Abuja last year to adopt ADC as their new vehicle for driving out the ruling APC from power, he wrote.
