Ukraine Security guarantees to include binding commitments, draft Paris Summit statement shows

Security guarantees for Ukraine are set to include binding commitments to support the country in the event of a future Russian attack, according to a draft statement from the Coalition of the Willing of Kyivs allies.  The draft, seen by Reuters, outlines measures to help restore peace, including military, intelligence, and logistical support, diplomatic initiatives, and the adoption of additional sanctions. The statement still requires approval at the summit of coalition leaders in Paris. U.S. President Donald Trumps special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner attended the summit at Frances Elysee Palace.  Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also took part as part of broader efforts to coordinate a unified Ukrainian, European, and American position to present to Russia. Negotiations aimed at ending the nearly four-year conflict have accelerated since November. However, there are few signs that Russia would accept the current proposals, with territorial disputes remaining a key obstacle and fighting continuing.Until now, many coalition military pledges have been vague, officials say. European diplomats hope that formalizing the coalitions guarantees will also strengthen U.S. commitments, which have been largely outlined in bilateral talks with Ukraine. In his Sunday evening address, Zelenskiy emphasized a dual approach: diplomacy or active defense.  Ukraine will prepare for both scenarios: diplomacy, which we are pursuing, or further active defense if pressure from partners on Russia proves insufficient.
