Kwankwaso Accuses Kano Govt of Allegedly Forcing Officials to Defect to APC

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the Kano State Government of allegedly coercing state officials into defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post shared on his social media platforms, Kwankwaso claimed that he had received disturbing reports suggesting that the state government was forcing officials and elected local government chairmen to declare allegiance to either Gandujiyya or Kwankwasiyya.

“I have received several news, some good ones, but some so terrible. I received reports that Kano State Government is compelling state officials and elected local government chairmen to sign for either Gandujiyya or Kwankwasiyya”.

He further warned that such actions would not be taken lightly by his supporters, describing the alleged conduct as deeply disappointing.

“Every one of our supporters would not take this lightly. It is so disheartening that the government would go down so low to be doing this.”

Reacting to the allegation, the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, dismissed the claims, insisting that there was no truth to them.

According to him, “what exactly happened is that our party is asking everybody, not only government officials, who is willingly and ready to join APC to do so, but not compelling as reported”.

He maintained that no individual was forced to act against their political choices, stressing that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf upholds freedom of association and political affiliation.

Despite his earlier claims, Kwankwaso later encouraged his supporters to defect to the APC if they chose to do so.

“You should sign any documents given to you for the decamping to the APC; I have no problems with that, he added.
