“We didn’t organise any protest” – AAU Students’ Union
The Student Union Government (SUG) of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma in Edo State has denied any involvement in the protest against the kidnapping of students of the institution.
Distancing the union and its officials from reports that the violent protest was organised by the school’s SUG, the President of the union, Osadebamen Michael said such a claim is misleading.
In a video shared on Tuesday, Michael said neither the AAU SUG nor the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was part of the decision to have students embark on a protest.
According to him, attributing the protest and its outcome to AAU’s SUG or NANS is unfortunate and pitiable.
“It is quite unfortunate that some persons are deliberately trying to associate what transpired with the student community. We are here to officially debunk that claim. Students did not organise any protest,” Michael said.
However, stating that AAU students have always maintained decorum and cooperated with the school’s management, Michael called on the Edo State government and security agencies to as a matter of urgency, release students arrested over the violent protest.
In addition, Michael stated that the students who have been detained on the orders of the state government, had no hand in the protest.
