
The Muslim cleric, Abdullahi Abubakar, who gained national and international recognition for sheltering over 300 Christians during the 2018 Plateau attacks, has d!ed at the aged of 92.The deceased passed away on Thursday night, January 15 at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, after battling with a heart condition. The late imam made headlines when he opened his mosque and home to at least 300 Christians fleeing violence by armed men during the crisis. The attackers had visited the mosque and asked for the whereabout of the fleeing Christians but he denied knowledge of their whereabouts.As the crowd scampered for safety, Abubakar provided shelter to those who ran his way, until calm returned.His selfless action earned him recognition both home and abroad. He was nominated for the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by the federal government and received a handshake from the late President Muhammadu Buhari for his bravery.
