2027: Kogi Gov Ododo gets fresh endorsement for second term bid

The governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo has secured a fresh endorsement to contest for a second term in the 2027 general election.

The endorsement for the governor’s second-term bid followed the resolve from constituents from the Kogi East Senatorial district to ensure a return of political power to the district in 2031.

In a communique issued at the end of the Kogi East Political Summit held in Anyigha on Sunday, the constituents said they aim to achieve such a power shift through strategic political alliances.

Signed by its Chairman of the Planning Committee, Musa Isiaka, and Secretary of the Planning Committee, Professor David Menenge, respectively, the members of the constituent said there is a need to foster unity and equity that would protect the district’s chances of producing Kogi State’s next governor at the end of Ododo’s tenure.

According to them, the district is determined to embark on a statewide political agenda devoid of ethnic rivalry and unhealthy competition.

“Kogi East must pursue a statewide political agenda rather than an ethnic-based approach. Dislodging an incumbent governor requires strategic alliances that cut across all senatorial districts,” the communique said.

It also called for a strong alliance with Kogi Central – Governor Ododo’s district – to create a path for the return of power to Kogi East in the 2031 elections.

“Having assessed the performance of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo so far, the summit unanimously endorses him to seek re-election in 2027, with the clear understanding that power should rotate back to Kogi East at the end of his second term in 2031,” the communiqué added
