JUST IN: CAN Confirms Abduction of Church Worshippers by Terrorists in Kaduna

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory has confirmed the abduction of no fewer than 163 worshippers by suspected terrorists in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, disclosed this on Monday evening while confirming the incident to journalists.

He said the worshippers were abducted during Sunday church services at Cherubim and Seraphim Church 1 and Cherubim and Seraphim Church 2 in the community.

According to Hayab, he received a distress call from the CAN chairman in the affected area, who reported that the attackers stormed the churches while worship was ongoing, locked the gates and forcefully marched the congregants into the surrounding bush.

He explained that eight of the abducted worshippers later managed to escape, but as of Monday, 163 persons remained in captivity.

“Security officers are already on top of the matter. We commend their efforts and urge them to do everything possible to rescue our brothers and sisters safely and unhurt in good time,” Hayab said.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges facing communities in parts of Southern Kaduna, where residents have continued to experience attacks by armed groups despite ongoing military and security operations.

The Kaduna State Government, the police, and the military authorities have yet to issue an official statement.
