Fresh details have emerged from the closed-door meeting between Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, and President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
The visit has drawn attention due to the ongoing rumours of the governor’s planned defection from the NNPP to the ruling APC.
During the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Yusuf raised serious concerns about insecurity in parts of Kano. He asked for stronger federal backing to restore safety in affected local government areas.
The governor briefed the president on recent violent incidents in the state. He spoke about the killing of a housewife and her children. He described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable. Yusuf stressed that urgent action is needed to protect lives.
Security topped the discussion. Yusuf explained steps already taken by his administration. He highlighted the activities of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps. He said the outfit is supporting conventional security agencies on the ground. He, however, noted that federal support is critical for better results.
Beyond security, Yusuf outlined key development plans of his government. He spoke on infrastructure renewal and economic expansion.
According to him, Kano needs stronger collaboration with the Federal Government to achieve lasting growth.
The governor praised President Tinubu for approving federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project. He said the road is vital to trade, movement, and job creation.
Moreover, Yusuf added that the project would open up major economic corridors in the state.
President Tinubu responded by assuring Yusuf of federal support. He said the Federal Government is ready to partner with Kano to address insecurity and push development projects that benefit residents.
The meeting was held privately. Discussions also touched on governance, cooperation, and national stability.
However, the engagement has continued to fuel speculation about Yusuf’s political future, especially amid reports of possible defection to the APC.
