Abducted Kwara monarch’s son regains freedom after N20m ransom payment, father remains in captivity as kidnappers demand additional N15m

The abducted son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after a N20 million ransom was paid to his captors. The victim, identified as Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, was kidnapped alongside his father on December 31, 2025.  A family source, who spoke to Punch on Tuesday, January 20, on condition of anonymity, said the prince was released on Monday after intense negotiations with the kidnappers.  It is true the prince was released on Monday morning after we paid N20m. They dropped him at a herders settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
