The Airport Police Command says it has taken note of a video currently circulating on social media involving police personnel of the Command and an Instagram content creator, teaserprank2, following a routine stop-and-search operation. In a video making the rounds, the content creator said he had gone to pick a friend from the airport and while returning home, he was stopped by some officers along the airport road. He alleged that the officers searched the trunk of his car and after finding nothing implicating, went on to accuse him and his friends of being thieves. He said the incident escalated when he resisted going to their office with them. He said that the officers treated him badly as if he was a criminal. A video he recorded showed when his phone was hit by one of the officers when he tried recording and also where one of the officers could be seen holding him by the trouser and dragging him. Reacting to the viral video, the Airport Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said the officers captured in the video have been identified and taken into custody. He stated that they are currently undergoing appropriate internal disciplinary procedures in line with the extant rules, regulations, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The Airport Police Command sympathizes with @teaserprank2 for the experience encountered during the incident. The Nigeria Police Force does not condone any form of harassment, intimidation, or unprofessional conduct by its personnel under any circumstance. Our officers are expected to carry out their lawful duties with civility, restraint, and respect for the rights and dignity of all citizens. He invited the content creator to the Airport Police Command to enable a full resolution of the matter.
