JUST IN: Dangote Refinery Increases Petrol Price Nationwide

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a fresh increase in the price of petrol nationwide.

The refinery adjusted its gantry price from N699 per litre to N799 per litre. This change now places the pump price at N839 per litre at MRS filling stations across the country.

Politics Nigeria reports that the announcement was made on Monday evening in a statement issued by the company.

The refinery explained that the price adjustment followed the end of the festive season and a return to normal market conditions.

It stated, “With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability. Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre.”

The refinery said the earlier price support during the festive period was temporary. It was introduced to ease pressure on Nigerians when household spending was high.

According to the company, this was the second time it absorbed high costs in the national interest during festive seasons. In 2024, it supported logistics costs. In 2025, it reduced petrol prices to calm the market and make fuel more affordable.

However, the refinery expressed concern that many filling stations did not implement the reduced prices at the pump. It said this prevented Nigerians from fully enjoying the benefits of the intervention.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to steady fuel supply and market balance.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, disclosed that the refinery is currently supplying about 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit daily to the Nigerian market.

He said evacuation and distribution operations are ongoing nationwide without disruption.

Bird added that the refinery’s production system allows it to refine different types of crude oil and intermediate feedstocks. This flexibility, he said, ensures that fuel supply remains stable even during scheduled maintenance.

He noted that local production continues to protect Nigeria from global price shocks and supply challenges linked to fuel importation.

The statement further read, “As a domestic producer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to shield the Nigerian market from import-related volatility and external supply disruptions, while remaining a stabilising force in the downstream petroleum sector. Dangote Petroleum Refinery remains focused on delivering energy security, price stability, and long-term value for Nigerians.”

The price increase is expected to impact transport costs and household spending in the coming days as marketers adjust their pump prices in line with the new gantry rate.

Recall that earlier reported by Politics Nigeria, the refinery had slashed petrol prices during the festive period as part of efforts to reduce economic pressure on Nigerians and stabilise fuel supply nationwide.
