VIDEO: FCTA Workers React to Court Order to Suspend Ongoing Strike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) staff have said they will not resume work, despite a court order directing them to suspend their industrial action.

According to earlier reports, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, granted an interlocutory injunction sought by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration, ordering workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to halt the ongoing strike.

However, aggrieved workers who spoke on Tuesday said that although they were no longer officially on strike, they would remain at home until their demands are met.

One of the workers said, “Let them open the gates wide. We are in our houses. No problem. We are no longer on strike, tell them.

Wike has won. Let them open all the gates. We will remain in our houses. When our demands are met, we will return to work.

“We are not fighting anyone. The lives of FCTA staff matter to us. Nobody is struggling with them. They have the guns, the power and the resources, but the people’s power is greater.

“We are gallant FCTA workers and we deserve respect. This is our land; we are not second-class citizens. You cannot be treated badly and still be expected to suffer in your own country. We say enough is enough.”
