ADC policy committee not limited to party members, says party spokesman

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says membership of the party’s policy and manifesto committee is not restricted to ADC members.

Abdullahi made the clarification on Wednesday in response to a social media post by Yemi Adamolekun, who queried her inclusion in the committee.

He said many members of the committee are neither ADC members nor politicians.

“It is important to point out that not everyone on the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee is a member of the ADC. Many are not even politicians,” Abdullahi said.

He said the party deliberately adopted the approach because policy development should not be left to politicians alone.

“This is because the ADC believes that the task of developing workable public policies for the benefit of all Nigerians should not be left to politicians alone,” he said.

Abdullahi said all individuals recommended to serve on the committee were contacted and gave their consent during the vetting process.

“During our vetting process, we took all necessary measures to ensure that everyone recommended to serve on this important committee was duly notified and had given their consent,” he said.

He expressed hope that Adamolekun would agree to serve on the committee based on her experience, despite not being a member of the party.

“We hope that Ms Adamolekun will agree to serve on this committee because of her vast experience — even though she is not a member of our party,” Abdullahi added.

The clarification followed Adamolekun’s post in which she denied joining the ADC and questioned the party’s credibility over her alleged inclusion.
