2027: Abia Group Backs Otti for Second Term, Donates ₦100m for Nomination Form

The Ukwa La Ngwa people of Abia State have contributed ₦100 million towards the purchase of the nomination form for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The donation was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha.

According to the statement, the announcement was made on Friday during a grand civic reception organised in honour of the governor at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Ukwa La Ngwa Civic Reception and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, said the funds were jointly raised by the people, adding that they were willing to contribute more if the need arose.

In his remarks, Governor Otti expressed gratitude for the reception and endorsement, describing the large turnout as overwhelming.

“I want to thank all of you for the endorsement, the support, and the encouragement,” he said.

The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to place the interest of the people above all else, stressing that governance in Abia was no longer driven by self-interest or partisan considerations.

“This is your government, and your interest will always come first. This is not about party or partisan celebration,” Otti stated.

He also announced that Ovom Road would be commissioned on February 25, the same day the reconstruction of the Enyimba Hotel, a five-star facility to be managed by Radisson Blu, would be flagged off.

“Our approach is not to flag off projects and abandon them. We want the five-star hotel to begin operations by next year,” he added.

Otti further urged Aba residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take responsibility for security and cleanliness within their communities, noting that voter turnout in the city did not reflect its population strength.

“The only way to show your strength is to ensure people come out to register and vote,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the occasion and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, described the event as a clear verdict on the governor’s performance.

“This is not a political party rally but the people’s verdict — a collective affirmation that good governance is possible,” Wabara said, adding that Abians would resist any attempt to undermine the people’s mandate in 2027.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Darlington Nwokocha, said Governor Otti’s achievements across various sectors had earned him broad support.
