Osun Assembly Accuse Sacked APC Chairmen, Oyetola of Diverting ₦50bn LG Funds

The Osun State House of Assembly has raised a major alarm regarding the alleged illegal diversion of approximately ₦50 billion belonging to local governments.

According to the state legislature, these funds were diverted by All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen who had been sacked by the court.

The Assembly specifically pointed fingers at the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, alleging that he facilitated the questionable transactions through the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

In a formal statement released on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the House condemned the handling of these funds, describing it as a direct violation of constitutional law.

The statement, issued by Olamide Tiamiyu, the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Adewale Egbedun, detailed specific payments that the Assembly claims are fraudulent.

Moreover, the lawmakers expressed deep concern over the fact that while these billions were reportedly being moved, local government workers have gone 12 months without pay.

The Assembly noted that primary school teachers, healthcare workers, and retirees have received nothing, despite the massive sums flowing through these unauthorized channels.

Speaker Adewale Egbedun, while addressing a press conference in Osogbo, warned that the House would not tolerate the “illegal meddlesomeness” of the former governor. The Assembly emphasized that Mr. Oyetola’s family ties to the President do not grant him the authority to interfere with Osun State’s local government administration.

However, the House of Assembly also issued a stern warning to UBA, stating that the bank risks severe reputational damage.

They insisted that any funds disbursed under the instructions of “illegal” political appointees would be treated as a financial crime and recovered in full.
