“Sheathe your swords” – Otti tells Julius Abure-led faction of Labour Party

The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has called on the factional leader of the Labour Party, Julius Abure and his group to sheathe their swords.

Otti made the call while reacting to the delisting of the Abure-led executive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from its portal.

The governor also described the Labour Party as a formidable force despite the exit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Noting that LP has lost a good number of its members, including lawmakers and members of its executive committee, Otti said the Labour Party remains strong.

“We regret the exit of our former leader and presidential candidate. While we regret it, we are working to resolve the problems in the party so that everyone can come together and make the party stronger.

“In my opinion, the party should come together and become a stronger force. We have also lost a few members to defection, especially some national assembly members, interim national committee members, but despite that, we are still a very strong force,” Otti said.

In addition, the governor further called on all aggrieved members of the party to come together towards addressing the internal disputes rocking the Labour Party.

He said there is a need to set up a reconciliation committee as the Labour Party’s national working committee has recommended.

“The idea is to reconcile everyone who is willing and desires to come back to the party.

“I call on Julius Abure and his team to sheathe their swords and come back to the party. Once they are willing to abide by the rules, we will be happy to receive them,” he said.
