Tinubu Support Organisation Under Fire Over ‘One-Man Show’ and Self-Interest Agenda

A fresh crisis has hit the Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO) following serious allegations against its Director-General, Aminu Suleiman, over claims of running the group as a “one-man show” driven by “greed” and personal political ambition.

The accusations have triggered sharp reactions within the organisation, exposing deep internal disagreements and raising questions about leadership, inclusion, and the future of the pro-Tinubu political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

The controversy began after a faction identified as Concern TSO Pressure Groups openly accused Suleiman of sidelining key members and hijacking the influence of the organisation for self-interest.

The group alleged that the TSO, which played a major role in mobilising support during the 2023 presidential election, has been reduced to a tool for personal advancement.

In a statement signed by Dr. Aminu Gwandu, TSO National Director of Support Groups, and Hon. Usman Ali Maitsidau, the North-West Zonal Coordinator, the group claimed that Suleiman exploited the collective strength of the organisation to secure political benefits for himself.

They alleged that “The TSO is a coalition of 6,320 support groups that the organization rode on and won the 2023 elections but were all used and dumped by Aminu Suleiman.”

According to the group, several individuals who committed time, resources, and logistics to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign were gradually pushed aside after the election victory. They accused the TSO leadership of abandoning those who worked at the grassroots during the campaign period.

The group further claimed that Suleiman secured two key appointments for himself after the elections. These include a position as a Board Member of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC) and another as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Technical College, Kaena, Nasarawa State.

They alleged that both appointments were facilitated through political connections rather than collective advocacy by the organisation.

Beyond appointments, the pressure group accused the DG of altering the organisational structure of the TSO without consulting national leaders, zonal executives, or state and local coordinators. They described the move as unilateral and contrary to the principles of internal democracy.

They also rejected claims that Suleiman personally funded TSO activities during the 2023 election season. According to them, members independently bore the cost of campaign logistics, including transportation, accommodation, and mobilisation, with the expectation of fairness and recognition after victory.

The group raised concerns over what it described as a pattern of private engagements with political sponsors and stakeholders, allegedly carried out without the knowledge or involvement of national and grassroots leadership structures. They said this approach undermined transparency and collective decision-making.

In a series of pointed questions, the group challenged the DG to account for his leadership style during the election period. They asked how often national, zonal, state, and local government executive meetings were convened throughout the 2023 campaign, insisting that such records be made public.

While criticising the current leadership, the group warned that the 2027 elections would require a more focused and digitally driven political strategy. They stressed that unity, trust, and inclusive leadership would be essential to sustain grassroots mobilisation going forward.

They also appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to recognise that electoral success is driven by people rather than platforms. The group emphasised that the strength of the TSO lay in its thousands of coordinators and support groups who worked collectively to deliver victory in 2023.

In response, the Assistant National Secretary of the TSO, Barr. Usman Yakubu, dismissed the allegations and disowned the pressure group entirely. In a statement titled “rebuttal and disclaimer,” he described the claims as misleading and a misrepresentation of the views of genuine TSO members.

Yakubu insisted that the group behind the allegations was never part of the TSO and therefore lacked the authority to speak on its affairs. He maintained that the organisation remains united and fully operational under Suleiman’s leadership.

“The TSO remains united, intact, and fully operational worldwide under the able leadership of our amiable and workaholic Director General, Hon. Aminu Suleiman,” he said.

He added that all legitimate TSO coordinators, members, and affiliated support groups remain in constant communication with Suleiman and are committed to promoting the policies of the Tinubu-led administration. He also reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Furthermore, Yakubu concluded that contrary to the allegations, Suleiman has consistently carried state and diaspora coordinators along in decision-making. He noted that despite not holding an elective office, the DG has continued to work tirelessly for the benefit of members.
