JUST IN: Lagos Govt shuts down Ladipo Market [PHOTOS/DETAILS]

The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, also known as the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, over what it described as persistent environmental violations.
The action was confirmed on Sunday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed the development via a post on social media.

According to Wahab, the closure followed repeated infractions, including indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and highways, as well as illegal street trading activities around the market corridor.

He stated that the enforcement exercise forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to uphold environmental standards, restore order to public spaces, and curb practices that pose risks to public health and safety.

Officials said the Ladipo market, a major hub for automobile spare parts located in Mushin, had previously been cautioned and sanctioned over similar environmental concerns but failed to comply with regulations.

The government reiterated that markets and business operators across the state must adhere strictly to waste management and environmental laws, warning that defaulters will continue to face enforcement actions.

Residents and traders have been advised to cooperate with authorities and adopt proper waste disposal practices as the state intensifies its campaign against environmental abuse and street trading.
