Killings: Army Chief deploys special forces to Plateau
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of special forces to Plateau State.
This was contained in a statement released late Monday by Captain Chinonso Oteh, the media information officer for the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace.
According to Oteh, the deployment of the special troops is part of the Army Chief’s intervention initiative to aggressively and decisively deal with the recent resurgence of terrorist attacks in Plateau and its environs.
Oteh also noted that the presence and activities of the forces against the terrorists will be a game changer in addressing the threat of insecurity in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
“Receiving the troops at Headquarters 3 Division, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, welcomed the troops and urged them to be decisive and ruthless in carrying out offensive operations against the terrorists,” Oteh said.
He also noted that the GOC appreciated the Army chief’s proactive leadership, which provided the necessary combat enablers and other logistics requirements for the effective implementation of the troops’ mandate.
In addition, Major General Oyinlola urged Plateau residents to remain calm upon sighting a large number of troop movements and other heavy military equipment.
Also appreciating the residents for the support to the military, Oyinolola reiterated the importance of timely intelligence on criminal elements whereabouts which aids troops’ operations that would lead to desired peace.
