Ambassador designate, Reno Omokri, has said that he has apologised to President Tinubu over the vile comments he made against him during the 2023 election campaigns. Reno at the time had amongst other things accused the President of falsely claiming to be a graduate of the Chicago State University. In his campaign against President Tinubu, he said some derogatory things about him. However, Reno Omokri made a u-turn in October 2023 and has been working with the Tinubu-led government, all to the shock of many Nigerians. Only recently, he was confirmed as an Ambassador-designate and is expected to be deployed anytime soon. In a chat with Channels TV this evening February 11, Reno said he withdrew his past allegations against President Tinubu after the Supreme court affirmed President Tinubu’s election as President. He also stated that he dismissed the allegations after going to the Chicago State University and confirmed that President Tinubu indeed attended the university. He also stated that in October 2024, he had a private meeting with President Tinubu and apologised for all the allegations he had leveled against him in the past. During the interview, he was taken up on the previous comment he made saying he would never work for the Tinubu administration as it is not in his DNA to do so. When asked if his DNA has now changed, Reno responded sayingNo, my DNA has not changed. I am not eating my words. I never said I cannot work for Nigeria. As an ambassador, I am working for Nigeria. I am going to be an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
