Makinde and Atiku met with IBB over ADC Vice Presidential slot – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has alleged details of discussions that reportedly took place between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during their recent meeting in Minna, Niger State.In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 11, and shared on his verified X account, titled Between Atiku and Makinde, Untold Story of What Happened in Minna, Fayose claimed that the meeting venue and participants were carefully selected to ensure what he described as confidence and acceptability among political stakeholders.According to Fayose, discussions centred on preparations for the next presidential election and concerns about the choice of a possible running mate. He alleged that Atikus camp believes that Labour Partys 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would neither agree to serve as deputy nor be widely accepted in the North as a potential successor.Fayose further claimed that Atiku is confident of securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging that arrangements have been made to prevent the partys ticket from being zoned.He said Makinde agreed in principle to join the ADC on the condition that he would be named Atikus running mate.He said: Atiku is 70% certain of getting the ADC ticket, having ensured the non-zoning of the partys presidential ticket. Makinde agreed to join ADC on the condition that he will be handed the partys Vice Presidential ticket, as Atikus running mate. This is expected to be presented to Atikus inner caucus for further discussions and ratification.Fayose also alleged that Makinde assured Atiku of his ability to mobilise support within the party, particularly during the primary election, pledging to deliver delegates from the South-West and to leverage family ties in Rivers State to secure backing from the South-South region.He claimed that Makinde argued his involvement would give the ADC a strategic advantage by splitting votes in the South-West during the general election.
