No Government Order to Suspend Sachet Alcohol Ban Enforcement — NAFDAC Clarifies

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied claims that the federal government has ordered a suspension of its regulatory activities on sachet alcohol.

In a statement on Wednesday, the agency’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the report as false and misleading.

NAFDAC clarified that it has not received any formal communication from the federal government instructing a halt to its enforcement actions regarding sachet alcohol products.

“The said publication is false, misleading, and does not reflect any official communication received by the Agency from the federal government,” the statement read.

The agency emphasised that it operates strictly within its statutory mandate and in accordance with government policies and directives, noting that enforcement activities continue to follow existing laws and regulatory frameworks.

“At no time has the Agency received any formal directive ordering the suspension of its regulatory or enforcement activities in respect of sachet alcohol products,” Prof. Adeyeye added.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance in the food and beverage sector, stressing that any official changes to national regulatory actions would be communicated through proper government channels.

The agency also warned against spreading unverified information, noting that such reports can create unnecessary public anxiety, economic uncertainty, and misinterpretation of government policy.
