How Peter Obi used to share milk from his mother’s store with fellow students – Priest

A catholic archbishop, Jude Okolo has said that Peter Obi has always exhibited acts of philanthropy even as a student in the 1970s.

Archbishop Okolo, who is the Papal Nuncio to the Czech Republic, said this at the 40th priesthood anniversary.

Describing the early philanthropic life of the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Archbishop Okolo said in the ‘70s, Obi would pick items from his mother’s supermarket to give to his fellow students.

His words, “Once again, the one who represents us in a very special way, Chief Sir Peter Obi. Now that I have mentioned his name, allow me just, in a few words, to give this anecdote.

“In the ‘70s, I was in All Hallows, and I was a teacher there before going to the big, to B-Guard, and one day I wanted to go and visit my brother at CKC, Gerald. And so what happened was, I went to the principal, Father Taagbo, a very good friend.

“I told him, “I hope I can go and see my brother? I know this is not visiting hour.” He said, “Oh, yes. Oh, yes.” Then he said, “I hope you have something for him.” So I told him that I didn’t prepare anything,” Okolo noted.

The archbishop said that the priest would then give him some items to give to his brother in school.

“He went into the kitchen and brought a few tins of Peak Milk, and also there may be some biscuits there, to put in a basket and take it to my brother, who was a student. This was the greatness of Father Taagbo. May God rest his gentle soul,”

Speaking further, Okolo said that on getting to his brother’s school, he would find out that Obi had already provided some of the items needed by the students.

He said the former Anambra governor, as a student then, would pick these items, including milk from his mother’s supermarket to distribute to his fellow students.

“So I was with my bag, going to see Gerald. So when I came to him, I told him, “Oh, I have something for you.”

“You know what he told me? He said, “My friend Peter has already provided for us. He said, he (Peter Obi) would go to his mother’s supermarket and take a carton of Peak Milk and distribute it to all the students.”

“Peter Obi didn’t start today, already as a student, he would go and carry his mother’s carton of Peak milk to distribute to students.

“So I told him, Gerald, since there’s already peak Milk take the biscuits I have brought add to it and also share with your fellow students. I think he did it,” Okolo stated.
