Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has advised the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to pursue diplomatic engagement with the Federal Government as part of efforts to resolve his prolonged legal battle.

Igboho’s position was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his legal counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, where he also applauded Kanu for formally ending the Monday sit-at-home directive that has disrupted economic and social activities across the South-East for several years.

According to the statement, Igboho described the cancellation of the weekly protest as a “thoughtful and necessary” decision capable of helping to restore stability and economic normalcy in the region. He noted that the move signalled a shift toward constructive engagement rather than prolonged confrontation.

“Chief Sunday Adeyemo wishes to commend the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on his recent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East zone of Nigeria,” the statement read, adding that the action marked the end of what he described as a five-year economic disruption.

Beyond the suspension of the civil disobedience measure, Igboho urged Kanu to adopt a more conciliatory approach by opening channels of dialogue with the current administration. He stressed that meaningful mediation and negotiations could help break the stalemate surrounding Kanu’s case and potentially pave the way for a political solution.

Igboho warned that the “desecration” of the region must end to allow for economic recovery.

“Chief Igboho also urges all those who make profits from the desecration and despoliation of the South-East through violence to desist from such acts in the interest of peace and economic prosperity of the region and the nation,” the statement added.

The Yoruba nation activist maintained that sustained peace and regional development would depend largely on dialogue, compromise, and a willingness by all parties to engage constructively in resolving longstanding grievances.
