Shehu Sani Names Four Persons Allegedly Jailed by El-Rufai for Criticising Him

Former senator Shehu Sani has accused ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai of imprisoning four citizens for speaking against his government while he was in office.

Sani made the allegation while reacting to El-Rufai’s recent claim that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was acting like a tyrant.

The former Kaduna governor had raised the alarm after officials of the Department of State Services reportedly attempted to arrest him at the Abuja airport on his return from Egypt.

In an interview on Friday, El-Rufai said the move was part of a wider plan to harass and silence opposition voices in the country.

Sani, however, dismissed that claim and turned the accusation back on the former governor. He said El-Rufai’s record in office showed intolerance toward criticism, especially on social media.

Writing on X, the former lawmaker alleged that several individuals were arrested and jailed between 2015 and 2023 for criticizing the Kaduna State Government.

He named four people he said were victims of such actions. They are Dr. John Danfulani, Mal Nasiru Jagaba, Steven Kefas, and Segun Onibiyo.

According to Sani, the men spent months in Kaduna prison over comments made online against the administration.

He wrote,
“These are some of those arrested and sent to jail for criticizing the Governor of Kaduna State and Kaduna State Government on their social media handles from 2015-2023.

“Their names are Dr John Danfulani, Mal Nasiru Jagaba, Steven Kefas and Segun Onibiyo who served for months in Kaduna Prison. Tell me the meaning of a tyrant. I will post more.”
