Lagos Plans Drone Deployment To Strengthen Security Across State
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to deploy surveillance drones in partnership with major security agencies to boost intelligence gathering and strengthen measures against insecurity across the state.
Mr. Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary and CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, revealed this on Monday during a press briefing commemorating his first 100 days in office.
He stated that the initiative is designed to boost aerial surveillance and enhance the state’s capacity for rapid response to security threats.
Ogunsan disclosed that the Trust Fund is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Airwing to enable coordinated aerial security operations throughout Lagos.
He stated that the collaboration will see the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, to enhance surveillance, strengthen intelligence gathering, and improve operational coordination among security agencies.
He emphasized that, as Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos needs ongoing investment in advanced security infrastructure to safeguard lives, property, and economic activities.
Reflecting on his tenure, Ogunsan stated that the Trust Fund has strengthened its financial capacity by implementing targeted fundraising initiatives and fostering closer engagement with stakeholders.
He revealed that 80 new operational and patrol vehicles have been deployed to bolster security presence and improve response times across the state, noting that more vehicles are expected to be added in the coming months.
The Trust Fund chief further disclosed that a private donor has pledged to construct a permanent office complex for the agency, while initiatives are ongoing to rehabilitate previously idle Armoured Personnel Carriers and reintegrate them into active service.
Looking forward, Ogunsan stated that the Trust Fund intends to roll out statewide training programs for security personnel, aimed at enhancing professionalism, tactical skills, and overall service delivery.
He reiterated the Trust Fund’s dedication to transparency, accountability, innovation, and strategic collaborations, emphasizing that these values are key to maintaining a safe and secure Lagos.
“Through collaboration and innovation, we will continue to strengthen security and ensure a safer environment for all residents,” he added.
