Ramadan: Kano Hisbah arrests 9 for allegedly eating in public

The Kano Hisbah Board has arrested nine Muslims for allegedly eating in public on the first day of Ramadan. Hisbahs Deputy Commander, Mujahid Aminudeen, who disclosed this in a statement said the suspects, including two women and seven men where arrested on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.  He explained that they were apprehended after being seen eating food in broad daylight, contrary to the rules of fasting. We arrested them and they are with us, where we will teach them the importance of fasting, how to pray and read the Quran, and how to become good Muslims, Aminudeen said. He, however, did not disclose when the arrested individuals will be released. Kano, a predominantly Muslim state, operates Islamic law alongside Nigerias civil laws.
