
A 24-year old tiller, Micheal Ogedengbe, was on Thursday, February 19, arraigned before a Magistrates Court sitting in Akure over alleged conspiracy and procurement of ab0rtion for a teenage girl. The defendant was docked on two counts bordering on conspiracy and unlawful administration of drugs to procure abortion. According to the charge, Ogedengbe Micheal and others at large allegedly conspired on February 1, 2026, at Oka Akoko in the Ondo State Magisterial District, to commit an offence, to wit: procure abortion. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code. In Count II, the defendant was alleged to have, sometime in January 2023, unlawfully administered drugs to one Marvellous Orogbemi, a 16-year-old girl, with intent to procure abortion. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 228 of the same law. The defence counsel, G.O. Omoedu, urged the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms, assuring the court that the defendant would not jump bail. Ruling, the Magistrate, R.I.
