‘It Was Child’s Play’ – Zamfara Lawmaker Rejects APC Congress over PDP Infiltration

A member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji, has faulted the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward and local government congresses held in Zamfara State.

Jaji, who represents Kaura-Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, said the process failed to reflect the will of genuine party members.

He spoke during a press briefing in Gusau on Monday.

The lawmaker described the exercise as disorganized and compromised by internal interests.

“It was child’s play,” he said while addressing journalists.

Jaji accused unnamed individuals of working with both state and national party officials to manipulate the congress for personal benefit.

He alleged that many APC members who lawfully purchased nomination and expression of interest forms were prevented from voting by officials deployed from the party’s national headquarters.

According to him, the exercise violated party rules and damaged the confidence of loyal members across the state.

“The committee sent from National Headquarters of APC allegedly conspired with some members and other elements, abusing the dignity of APC members in my constituency and across Zamfara State,” Jaji said.
“Some reports suggest participants were from PDP and other opposition parties, undermining our party’s guidelines.”

He further claimed that people believed to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party took part in the congress, raising questions about the credibility of the entire process.

Jaji warned that allowing such practices to stand could deepen divisions within the party and trigger another round of political instability in Zamfara.

He called on the Minister of State for Defence and APC leader in the state, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to step in and prevent a repeat of the crisis that followed the 2019 elections.

The lawmaker also appealed to the APC national leadership to act swiftly by dissolving the current state working committee and conducting a fresh congress that would be transparent and inclusive.

“We appeal to the committee constituted by the President to reconcile APC members to intervene and resolve the lingering crisis in the state,” he said.

Jaji stressed that fairness and strict adherence to party guidelines were the only way to restore trust among party supporters in Zamfara.

He warned that ignoring the complaints of aggrieved members could weaken the party ahead of future elections.
