JUST IN: Soldiers repel ambush on senior Army officer’s convoy in Kebbi, kill five terrorists

Major-General Bemgha Koughna, General Officer Commanding 8 division and Commander, sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has foiled a deadly ambush by suspected Lakurawa terrorist group members in Kebbi state.

The attack occurred near Mayama Hill as the GOC’s convoy was en route to visit frontline troops deployed in the state.

The convoy reportedly came under heavy gunfire in a forested area, prompting troops to respond with what the army described as overwhelming firepower.

Five suspected terrorists were killed during the exchange, while the convoy was secured and the ambush repelled.

Troops thereafter conducted a sweep of the area and recovered one OJC gun, one PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles and four AK-47 magazines.

Other items recovered include one bandolier of PKT ammunition, several rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, a camel bag containing ₦840,000, two mobile phones and five motorcycles.

The army said troops remain deployed in the area to prevent further attacks and maintain operational dominance.
