Killings: Chief of Defence Staff visits Kwara, launches Operation Savannah Shield
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede on Monday visited Kwara State following the gruesome killing of residents by some terrorists.
Oluyde also visited the state to condole with the governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over recent insecurity challenges faced by the state.
During the visit, the defence chief launched a new joint military operation aimed at tackling criminal activities in the state.
Expressing sympathy to the governor and residents over the killings and loss of property, Oluyede said the armed forces remain committed to supporting the state in restoring peace.
Also announcing the launch of a joint task force, codenamed Operation Savannah Shield, the defence chief said the initiative is designed to strengthen security efforts across Kwara.
According to him, the operation will integrate personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force under a unified command structure.
He further stated that the coordinated, multi-agency approach is aimed at curbing the activities of criminal forces and reinforcing the ongoing security operations in the state.
He also assured the people of Kwara of a sustained collaboration between the armed forces and the state government to enhance the safety of lives and property within the state and its environs.
