A former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ismail Ahmed, says the party is confident of victory ahead of the 2027 general election.
He also dismissed fears that the opposition coalition might be a threat to the chances of the APC in the election.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ahmed said the government of President Bola Tinubu is saving the country from disaster with its economic policies and programmes.
He, however, noted that some people may not understand what the government is doing, and some of the policies may take time before yielding results, hence the need for the government to always explain its actions to Nigerians.
“We are not scared of any opposition as we speak. Do we have work to do? Yes, absolutely. Do we need to convince a lot of Nigerians out there that our policy descriptions that have been rolled out by this administration, some are short term, some are medium term, some are long term, it will take some time when you are trying to pull a country out of the precipice of disaster, you need to be able to take tough decisions and these tough decisions would reflect in the bottom line of people? Yes.
“Is it easy for people to understand that? Not necessarily true. They may not easily understand it. Those are issues that we have to deal with, and that is what I want us as a party to focus on because we have a mandate and we still have two years to run this mandate of ours. The best way to get the next job is to do the current job very well. The President is doing his job, we should be able to go to town and tell the people what he is doing,” he said.
The APC chieftain emphasized the need for the President and the Vice President to move around the country and explain to Nigerians what they are doing because they are the real custodians of the mandate and their words carry more weight than what any surrogate would say.
