A retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) has stated that retired police officers are suffering under the contributory pension scheme and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene. The ex-CSP said this while speaking during a peaceful protest organized by retired police officers demanding to be removed from the scheme.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV, the ex-CSP said police officers who retired with the rank of CSP, after serving the country for 35 years, would only receive about three million naira as a retirement benefit and be paid fifty thousand naira as monthly pension.
The ex-CSP stated that the amount was too small. He said even a retired commissioner of police earns only about seventy thousand naira monthly, after years of loyal service to the nation.
In the ex-CSP’s words: “CSP, the group that I belong, will go home with 3 million naira after 35 years in service and will be paid 50 thousand naira monthly pension. What do we want to use this money to do? For your information, commissioner of police retired is being paid 70 thousand naira every month as a pension scheme. This money is slavery, it is to suffer us”
