Domestic violence: Umuada flog young woman for allegedly beating her brother’s wife and enabling abuse in Anambra

The Umuada (women of the lineage) have flogged a young woman accused of beating her brother’s wife and enabling abuse.   The incident happened in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.  According to an eyewitness, Nwanya Chiamaka Esther, the marriage has been plagued by domestic violence, with the young woman and her mother often joining her brother to beat his wife.  Esther said the lady threatened the leader of the Umuada with a machete and passed a message to the women, saying they can’t do anything to her.  In reaction, the women stormed the house to show her what they are capable of doing.  According to the witness, the mother-in-law was fined and issued a stern warning for biting her son’s wife.  Her son was handed over to the men for appropriate punishment.  “First time experience ever. So, I travelled for the Xmas celebrations and you know as a wife, you come back to different activities and meetingYesterday, we were called that there was a meeting for all the women married to my hubby’s side, early this morning, as early as 6:00am, we gathered for an emergency meeting without knowing what’s happening but the heads already knew,” she wrote.  “So it happened that a man was maltreating the wife violently, that’s he beats the wife and the sister together with their mum are accomplices, they help their brother in dealing with wife, so all the women stormed the house very early, they never expected it and they got what they really deserved. We later handed the guy to the men and we dealt seriously with the sister and she was forced to sign an undertaken that she will never raise her hand on the innocent woman, neither will the brother. I was so happy that I was part of this.
