Peter Odili Breaks Silence, Declares Fubara as Political Leader of Rivers State

The former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has publicly thrown his weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ending months of speculation regarding his stance on the intense political friction within the state.

Speaking at a significant gathering in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the elder statesman did not mince words as he offered much-needed morale to the embattled governor.

Odili emphasized that the leadership of the state’s political structure firmly rests with Fubara, regardless of the ongoing power struggle between the executive and other political actors.

Addressing the governor directly during the event, Odili conveyed a message of solidarity from the people.

“Your people are with you, and they have asked me to tell you that you are the political leader of Rivers State,” he declared.

He further encouraged Fubara to remain resolute despite the political storms.

“Rivers people said that wherever you go, we will go with you. Wherever you stand, we will stand with you. You are standing on firm ground. Stand there and hold on to God,” he added.

This open endorsement is viewed as a major blow to the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The two leaders have been locked in a fierce battle for the soul of the oil-rich state, a conflict that has split the State House of Assembly and led to several legal fireworks.

Odili’s intervention is particularly noteworthy given his status as a “political father” to many prominent figures in the state, including the FCT Minister himself.

By siding with Fubara, Odili has sent a clear signal to the political class that the current governor holds the mandate and the loyalty of the grassroots.
