Zamfara APC Dismisses Reports of Governor Lawal’s Defection to Party

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that Governor Dauda Lawal submitted a letter expressing his intention to defect to the party.

Governor Lawal was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released on Friday night, APC Publicity Secretary Mallam Yusuf Idris described the report, allegedly originating from Tambarin Gusau, as false and misleading.

He called it “unfounded and mischievous,” accusing those behind it of spreading misinformation to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension within the party.

“The Zamfara State chapter of the APC today came across a fabricated report purported to have emanated from Tambarin Gusau, claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal has sent a letter to the party expressing his desire to join the APC,” Idris said.

He emphasised that the APC functions through official channels, and no such letter has been received.

“The party did not receive any letter from Governor Dauda Lawal as claimed, nor is the APC aware of any recent move by the governor to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC,” he added.

Idris urged APC members and the public, especially residents of Zamfara State, to disregard the report entirely, describing it as a fabrication intended to cause confusion.
