Alleged suicide: IBBUL not involved in any financial or rental transaction between deceased student and landlord – Management

The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has distanced itself from the alleged rent dispute that resulted in the d3ath of a 300-level Computer Science student, Kelvin Danlami.  Danlami allegedly committed su!cide after losing N600,000 through betting. The body of the deceased was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his room by one of his neighbours, who subsequently alerted the authorities. A student who spoke to Daily Trust, claimed that Danlami took the drastic action after mismanaging the money entrusted to him for house rent due to gambling. In a press statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, the university clarified that it was neither aware of nor involved in any financial or rental transaction between the deceased student and the landlord mentioned in the reports.  According to the statement, the alleged incident stemmed from a private arrangement that is completely outside the academic and administrative operations of the institution. While extending its commitment to cooperate fully with relevant authorities, the management assured the public that it would support a transparent investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the students d3ath. The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has noted with concern a report circulating on social media and some online platforms regarding the alleged suicide committed by a 300-level Computer Science student, Mr. Kelvin Danlami over a house rent matter in Lapai, the statement read. “The University wishes to state clearly that it is not aware of, and was not a party to any financial or rental transaction between the deceased student and the landlord in question. “The matter, as reported, relates to a private arrangement entirely outside the academic and administrative operations of the Institution. “While awaiting the outcome of a thorough investigation by the relevant security agencies, the University Management cautions against speculation and the spread of unverified information that may further traumatize the family, friends, and the University community. “The University Management wishes to use this medium to remind all students that their primary purpose in the Institution is to pursue their academic programmes with diligence and discipline. “Students are strongly advised to avoid involvement in questionable transactions or activities that may expose them to financial, legal, or psychological distress. The Management also assures the general public that it will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to ensure that a proper and transparent investigation is carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mysterious d3ath. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.  On 19/1/26 at about 10.30am, information received indicated that in the early hours of the day, one Kelvin danlami, a student of IBBL was found to have hanged himself in his room with a cloth tied to the ceiling fan, the PPRO said. “One of the student neighbors who discovered the situation raised an alarm, and the victim was rushed to Gen hospital Lapai, where he was confirmed dead.  The police operatives attached to Lapai Div visited the scene, conducted preliminary investigation and the family of the deceased was contacted.
