2027: No Vacancy in Abia Government House — Abia Leaders Back Otti

Political leaders and stakeholders from Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have openly declared support for Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

They insist that the Abia Government House is not open for a change of leadership.

Politics Nigeria reports that the leaders made their position known on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ikwuano.

The gathering followed recent political comments credited to former governors of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu, who reportedly indicated interest in unseating Otti in the next election cycle.

At the meeting, the stakeholders praised what they described as visible improvements across the state under the current administration.

Moreover, they maintained that any attempt to remove Otti in 2027 would fail due to growing public support for his policies and leadership style.

Those present at the meeting included Adolphus Okebugwu, Friday Eluwa, Okezie Chukwuemeka, Emetu Chikezie, Mercy Alamba, Innocent Elogu, Iroabuchi Chukwuemeka and Christopher Elogu.

Speaking during the meeting, the Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Anthony Nwaubani, said Abia State was experiencing a major turnaround under Governor Otti.

He argued that the opposition had failed to present credible alternatives to the current government.

According to Nwaubani, “There is no vacancy in Government House, come 2027. We must defeat the opposition.”

He said criticism of government should be based on facts and reality, not misrepresentation. He warned that distorting the situation on the ground only alienates the public.

Nwaubani also reacted to claims that the Otti administration was merely “painting roads,” describing such comments as misleading. He said residents could clearly see infrastructural progress across different parts of the state.

He added, “Do we want to go back to Egypt? The answer is no.”

The mayor said the current administration had restored confidence in governance and improved living conditions. He noted that Abians had endured years of infrastructural decay before Otti’s emergence.

Nwaubani stated that many businesses previously relocated to neighbouring states due to poor infrastructure and governance. He said those businesses were now returning as a result of improved policies and development.

He further claimed that Abia State had regained its pride, with residents now willing to identify openly as indigenes of the state.

According to him, many Abians who left the state in the past had started returning after witnessing ongoing developments.

The Deputy Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Lucky Awuwa, also spoke at the event. He led the stakeholders in passing a vote of confidence on Governor Otti and endorsed his second-term ambition.

Awuwa dismissed suggestions that the support was politically induced. He described Otti as a determined and visionary leader.

In his words, “We are not induced, Otti is a dynamite, dogged and a man of vision. Ikwuano will solidly stand behind him.”

He urged residents of Abia State to actively participate in the democratic process. He specifically called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting ended with a unified message of support for the current administration and a firm rejection of any plans to return former political actors to power.
