2004:Taliban Seized 2 LGAs,Obasanjo Gave CDS 48hr To Hand Over His Uniform Or Solve The Issue—Dalung

 

Solomon Dalung, a former minister, has stated that the problem of insecurity in Nigeria did not start recently but began during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Dalung said that around 2004, a group known as the Nigerian Taliban took over two local government areas in Yobe State, creating a serious security challenge for the country.

 

In an interview with Trust TV, Dalung said when the incident happened, Obasanjo acted swiftly and firmly by giving a strict order to the then Chief of Army Staff. He said Obasanjo instructed the army chief to restore peace within 48 hours or be ready to lose his job.

Dalung stated that the order was taken seriously, and within the 48-hour deadline, the situation was brought under control.

In Dalung’s words: “In 2004 when the Nigerian Taliban took over 2 local governments in Yobe, Obasanjo gave the then Chief of Army Staff 48 hours to either bring the situation under control or hand over his uniform. The situation was brought under control with 48 hours”
