A former Commissioner for Works and Transportation in Ekiti State, Funmilayo Theresa Ogun, has obtained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest the 2026 governorship election.
Ogun, who also served as PDP State Secretary under former Governor Ayo Fayose, picked up the forms at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday, describing the step as a defining moment in her political journey and in the democratic growth of Ekiti State.
The governorship hopeful said her ambition symbolises the struggle of millions of hardworking Nigerian women who continue to be sidelined in governance.
“With this form in my hand, I am stepping forward to change the narrative. Ekiti State cannot continue under failed and backward models of governance while the world advances in innovation and development,” she declared.
She pledged competence, transparency, and people-oriented leadership, stressing that her aspiration was about service rather than personal gain.
“This is not about me. It is about Ekiti. It is about restoring trust and confidence in governance and returning power to the people who are the real owners of democracy,” Ogun said.
Highlighting her experience as commissioner, Ogun said she had been tested in leadership and was prepared for higher responsibilities.
“I have been tested in leadership. I understand what it means to manage people, resources, and institutions. That is why I am confident that I can deliver for Ekiti State,” she noted.
According to her, Ekiti people deserve a leader who listens and takes action in their best interest.
“Our people want good roads, functional schools, accessible healthcare, and a government that does not make excuses but finds solutions. That is the kind of leadership I am offering,” she added.
Ogun urged the PDP leadership to provide a level playing field for all aspirants, insisting that the contest should be based on competence, experience, and capacity to deliver.
She also expressed appreciation to her supporters for their loyalty and commitment.
“The work has just begun. Let’s do it together and make history,” she said.
