Governor Soludo Vows to Shut Down Schools Over Monday Sit-at-Home [VIDEO]

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has warned that schools will be shut down if they continue to observe the illegal Monday sit-at-home order.

The governor made this known on Wednesday while speaking at a press briefing in Awka. He said his government would no longer tolerate actions that disrupt education and economic activities in the state.

Soludo explained that the next phase of enforcement will focus on private and public schools that refuse to open on Mondays.

According to him, education must not suffer because of fear and disobedience to government directives.

He expressed anger over the continued closure of markets and schools despite repeated warnings to residents and business owners.

“And like I said before, we’re not going to train our children in the 21st century by going to school four days a week, absolute nonsense. And this, of course, obviously, has stopped. We are going to open the schools, and we’re going to take the same measures.

“If you are running a private school and if you are not open, we will come and slam it and lock it up, because we’ve given you the permission to operate there as a school. And in Anambra, the school days are Monday through Friday.

“For the sake of this state, for our children, for these poor people, poor traders, poor farmers and all who depend on these markets being open, we cannot have this so the struggle is to save the economy of Anambra, secure our future, save our children, keep our markets open and reassure our investors, who are pouring in now, that Anambra is not a four day week. It’s a five or six day week,” he said.

The governor noted that many traders still stayed away from their shops on Monday, even after the government declared the sit-at-home order illegal. He described the action as harmful to the economy and unfair to citizens who depend on daily business to survive.

Soludo said Anambra cannot afford to operate a four-day work system in a modern economy. He stressed that schools must run from Monday to Friday as approved by law and government policy.

He added that investors are already showing interest in the state and must be assured of stability and security. According to him, no serious investor will bring money into a state where markets and schools close every week because of fear.

The governor also directed security agencies to work with relevant ministries to ensure compliance. He said enforcement would begin immediately for any school found locked on Mondays.

He urged parents, teachers, and school owners to cooperate with the government in protecting the future of children in the state.

In a related development, Politics Nigeria reported that Gov Soludo had earlier ordered the sealing of markets and shops that failed to open on Mondays in defiance of the ban on sit-at-home. The government said the action was necessary to restore normal business activities and protect the state’s economy.

The Anambra State Government insists that education and commerce must not be sacrificed under any circumstance.
