JUST IN: Former Ondo First Lady Akeredolu Endorses Peter Obi for 2027

Former First Lady of Ondo State, Mrs. Betty Anyawu-Akeredolu, has publicly declared her support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Her endorsement is seen as a major political signal within the opposition coalition and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is preparing for its presidential primaries.

Mrs. Anyawu-Akeredolu made her position known through a message shared on her verified X handle on Friday, which was sighted by POLITICS NIGERIA.

She reacted to a post that linked her with support for Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement. In a brief response, she wrote: “Obi or nothing.”

Her statement has stirred reactions across political circles, especially within the ADC, where several leaders and groups are pushing different interests for the 2027 ticket.

The endorsement comes at a time when supporters of Peter Obi and allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are locked in debates over who should lead the coalition into the next general election.

Obi’s supporters have increased pressure on the ADC to zone its presidential ticket to the South. They argue that the region should produce the party’s flagbearer in the interest of fairness and national balance.

They also insist that Obi remains the most popular figure within the coalition and the best candidate to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Meanwhile, the ADC leadership has warned party members against actions that could weaken unity.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, issued the caution during an online interactive session with party supporters.

He urged members to stop promoting what he described as narratives of division and superiority within the coalition.

Abdullahi said the party must remain united as it prepares for its primaries scheduled for June.

He also addressed the proposal for the 2027 general election to be conducted earlier than expected, possibly in 2026.

According to him, such a move could create serious internal problems for the ADC, especially in resolving disputes that may arise after the primaries.

He explained that an early election timetable would reduce the time needed to settle grievances and reconcile aggrieved aspirants.

However, he noted that an early poll could also work in the party’s favour.

Abdullahi said public dissatisfaction with the current administration could give the ADC an advantage if elections come sooner.

He further revealed that he has held meetings with key opposition figures within the coalition.

These include Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Abdullahi said the talks focused on building unity and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
