Wike Declares He’s in Charge of Rivers State Amid Political Crisis

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly declared that he remains in control of Rivers State despite the ongoing political crisis rocking the state.

Wike made the statement while addressing supporters during a civic reception organised in his honour by the Wakirike Ethnic Nationality in Ogu, Rivers State.

Speaking to the crowd, the former Rivers State governor assured his supporters that the political situation was firmly under control.

He told them there was no cause for fear and insisted that his political structure still holds authority in the state.

During the event, Wike also explained how he recommended Boma Iyaye to President Bola Tinubu for the position of Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

He said the decision was difficult because of the fragile political environment in Rivers State.

According to Wike, he prayed for guidance before making the recommendation and expressed gratitude that his choice was accepted by the President. He noted that Iyaye’s appointment was based on trust and appreciation for loyalty and past contributions.

Wike stressed that public office should be used to serve the people and not for personal gain. He praised Iyaye for using his new role to improve the welfare of his community and for living up to expectations.

He further encouraged political appointees to remember their roots and work for the happiness of their people, saying opportunities in public office may not come twice.

Wike also spoke about the challenges that come with political leadership, including jealousy and opposition. He said such pressures should not discourage those who genuinely want to serve.

In a strong political statement, Wike reassured his supporters of his influence in Rivers politics. He said, “I can tell you to go home and sleep with your two eyes closed, we are in charge.”

However, His declaration has added fresh fuel to the political tension already surrounding the Rivers State government, especially as power struggles continue between rival camps within the state’s political structure.
