Soldiers storm bandits camp in Zamfara, kill 20 terrorists

Troops of the 8 division of the Nigerian Army operating under sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have stormed a bandit camp in Maru local government area of Zamfara state, killing 20 terrorists and destroying the enclave.

A military source revealed that the operation targeted the camp of Gwaska Dan Karmi, a notorious bandit leader in the area.

The source said the offensive followed credible intelligence that more than 100 bandits had converged at the camp to plan coordinated attacks on communities and logistics movements.

According to the source, the troops carried out week-long surveillance on the location before launching the assault.

He said the operation was conducted with support from the Nigerian Air Force, the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes.

The source said: “Contact was established on Jan. 31, 2026, as the terrorists advanced. They engaged the troops in a fierce firefight and attempted a flanking manoeuvre, but this was repelled by superior firepower.”

The source said 20 terrorists were KILLED during the encounter, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said follow-up operations were ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.

The source said troops recovered assorted weapons and ammunition, bicycles, food supplies, medical drugs, clothing, detergents and other logistics materials from the camp.

“The Gwaska Dan Karmi camp was completely destroyed,” the source said.

He added that the troops remained highly motivated, with their combat efficiency described as strong and unwavering.
