JUST IN: Shettima Departs Abuja for On-the-Spot Assessment of Tragic Attack in Kwara

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed the nation’s capital, Abuja, on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the recent tragic attack in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, he stated that VP Shettima is conveying President Tinubu’s strong assurances that the Federal Government would not relent until those responsible for the attack are tracked, apprehended, and brought to justice.

The attack, which claimed several lives, has drawn nationwide condemnation and heightened concerns over security in the region.

The Vice President’s visit is seen as part of the federal government’s efforts to provide support to victims and coordinate security responses.

President Tinubu’s directive underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring accountability and preventing further attacks in the state.

Politics Nigeria recalls that the tragic incident in Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on the rural settlements.

Residents have also recounted that the attackers had previously sent warnings or letters claiming they were coming to “preach” or to have villagers abandon allegiance to the Nigerian state in favour of extremist interpretations of law, demands that the people resisted.
