I Will Not Abandon My Beliefs or My People Because of Political Pressure; I Remain Firmly — Suswam

 

According to a report by Vanguard on October 10, 2025, former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has broken his silence on rumours suggesting he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

In a statement released by his media aide, Bede Bartholomew, on Friday in Makurdi, Suswam dismissed the reports as false, describing them as politically motivated attempts to create confusion among his supporters.

Bartholomew explained that the rumour began after online platforms claimed that Suswam would be officially received into the APC at a state dinner organized by Governor Hyacinth Alia. However, he clarified that the dinner was a non-political event meant to bring together key stakeholders across party lines.

“Senator Suswam attended the dinner out of respect for the office of the governor and as a stakeholder in the Benue project,” Bartholomew said. “There was no mention of any political alignment or defection agenda in the invitation.”

He added that the former governor remains committed to his political principles and would not bow to pressure or propaganda aimed at forcing him into another party.

“Suswam has never been the kind of leader who trades loyalty for convenience. He believes in his people and his convictions,” the statement read.

The aide urged supporters to disregard the speculation and remain focused on unity and development within the state, stressing that the PDP remains strong under Suswam’s influence in Benue.

This development comes amid heightened political movements and realignments across the state as preparations for future elections continue.
