VP Shettima Leads FG Delegation to Console With Victims of Kwara Attack

The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Saturday led a Federal Government delegation to Kwara State to console victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Nuku and Woro villages in Kaiama Local Government Area.

VP Shettima reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to restore peace and tranquillity in the affected communities.

He assured residents that a battalion of the Nigerian Army had been deployed to the area and that all efforts were underway to eliminate insecurity in Kaiama and across the state.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice President said, “We are here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commiserate with you and the good people of Kaiama and Kwara State over the tragedy that befell our communities of Woro and Nuku on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

That tragic killings had shocked Nigerians because the victims were peaceful members of the communities, dedicated to building a peaceful livelihood while practising their religion harmoniously.”

He added that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had been instructed to mobilise resources in partnership with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency to provide support to distressed communities.

“Please accept our heartfelt condolences on behalf of President Tinubu. A battalion of the Nigerian Army has been deployed, and all hands are on deck to restore peace and tranquillity to the communities,” VP Shettima assured.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State commended the swift response of the Federal Government, noting that troops were already on the ground and that “Operation Savannah Shield is in motion.”

He called for continued prayers for improved security across Nigeria.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Chairman of the North East Governors Forum, also extended condolences and prayers, urging that such incidents would not recur.

Local leaders, including the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, and the Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and VP Shettima for their prompt intervention and the deployment of security personnel.

Other dignitaries present during the visit included the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar; Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume; former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; and members of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
